Let us Learn the Language

Today's youth have a special language that we as parents need to really learn. That is the Language of ICT. For us to be able to understand them, get closer to them, building bridges between us, we really need to make some effort in learning their language.

It is a fact that today, the language of computers, internet and mobiles have become the common one. That is why we as parents, we need to get equiped, trying to learn the language of our siblings, in order to be able to continue doing our role as parents in guiding and protecting them.

So, I encourage you - as well as myself - to learn this language of Communications and Internet, please feel free to share your views with us, that is why we are here for !

Compliment Machine !

Hello Dear Parents,
I read about an artist by the name of Tom Greaves who invented what is called a " compliment machine " that is shown at the art exhibit in Washington D.C.

As people walk by, the machine dishes out compliments from an internatl IPOD. It says things like, " You are so smart ", " You really look great today ", " You smell good " and peaple are dwawn to this positive machine !

Greaves won't say what his motive is for the box, other than that it's in response to a saccharine culture in which everyone is special and nobody is critized, regardless of performance !

This triggered a question in my mind; are we parents that are generating confidence in our children by really complementing them ? I think that this is a real challenge !

Probably, that is opposite to the way we do things with our kids ! Their Performance is our number 1 driver ! Shall we try to change and just be a " compliment machine " for our children regardless of their performance .. and we will see most probably a big change ! Yes, we want to be " agents of Change " ! So let me start NOW !
You are really so smart, if you become one of those machines!

Internet Training 4 -5 June, 2008 for focus group

The Parents Internet Safety Focus Group is an important Group that was launched by her excellency Mrs. Suzanne Mubarak on March 24th, 2008 in Cairo, Egypt. We are under the Suzanne Mubarak Women's International Peace Movement.

We are a group of mothers and fathers ( Parents ) who are interested and care about the wellbeing and protection of our children from the dangers of the Net and at the same time increase awareness for others and to have the ripple effect .

Today, we are about to finalise the training session for the Parents focus group on the 5th of June, 2008.

It has been a good training course - included parents and grandparents .. all focusing on the issues related to the internet safety !

Thanks to the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology for this interesting training, thanks to Microsoft Egypt, for this time.

We encourage you to Join us with your thoughts, internet safety issues and ideas to share the important topics relating to this important issue of intenet safety.
